Bintulu Lands Polysilicon Plant
29 March - 5 April 2026. Issue 83.
We live in strange times right now. The uncertainty of the next few months as the Iran War continues day by day is unsettling to say the least. What plans can you make and carry out?
Which is why the headline news this week is particularly heartening. The announcement of a new polysilicon plant is a significant milestone for Bintulu and Sarawak’s economy, and a reassuring signal for the rest of us.
Still, the road ahead is perilous. This week’s infographic looks at the price differentials of petrol and diesel between Malaysia and our closest neighbours. In the region the subsidy game is strong but in this era of high prices and shortage, smuggling of subsidised fuel is going to be rampant, as we are already seeing.
In a string of thought, I ask if the future we imagined has finally arrived. Not quite glass-topped flying cars and nagging assistant robots, but a version of our future nonetheless.
