Certification for Hydrogen
7 - 13 Jul 2025. Issue 45.
The headlines last week were dominated by Sarawak’s move to pass a bill expanding the number of state assembly seats.
Meanwhile, something far less entangled in political theatre is quietly taking shape: hydrogen certification. It may not spark as much chatter, but its long-term impact could be far greater. Establishing a credible certification system gives Sarawak structure, authority, and export legitimacy in the hydrogen economy - just as Malaysia once did with Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR) in the 1960s, setting global benchmarks for quality and becoming a trusted name in the international market. It's a reminder that leadership doesn't always require fanfare… sometimes it just requires standards.
This week’s op-ed reflects on Sarawak’s readiness for investment. The pace of change is fast, but surely we have it in us to get organised faster?
