This week’s theme is about harsh realities.
The headline is Sarawak’s new Energy Transition Policy (SET-P). Unlike Net Zero targets, which are just destinations, SET-P aims to chart actual pathways away from fossil fuels while balancing economic growth. It may prove a more realistic approach to tackling climate change.
Less realistic, perhaps, is the plan to boost rice output from 51,000 tonnes in 2024 to 500,000 tonnes by 2030. Given years of decline, reviving such a labour- and land-intensive crop may take nothing short of divine intervention. The infographic shows how Sarawak stacks up against ASEAN peers.
And speaking of divinity: this week’s op-ed turns to Sarawak Laksa, a breakfast treasure we should guard carefully - because losing it would be the harshest reality of all.
