Gas-fueled growth in Bintulu
21 - 27 July 2025. Issue 47.
Bintulu, the heart of Sarawak’s industrial revolution, can hardly stay out of the headlines as it keeps making strides in becoming an energy hub of the region. But this week, our hearts should be stolen by the children of Sarawak who won big at the World Robot Olympiad China invitational - a nice surprise that we must be proud of considering the competition included teams from China, South Korea, the USA and Germany. Let’s hope these kids will give us a chance in turning around the statistics on the application of robots in our local industry - we have a lot to catch up on (see this week’s infographic).
Meanwhile, your vagabond heart might quicken at the thought that you can already book flights to fly directly from Kuching to Pontianak, as our neighbour’s airport finally recovers from covid-induced suspension of international flights.
In this week’s op-ed, I weigh the psychological impact of Sarawakians stepping out into the sun: are we ready? Or will we face the prospect of big changes with a heavy heart?
