This week’s theme is talent.
Three talented young ladies from Miri winning the World Robot Olympiad Europe Open 2025 is definitely headline-worthy this week. Robotics and automation is the future and these young ladies are off to a great start. They deserve all the attention they can get.
On the sporting side, emerging athletic talents will have the Borneo Games to look forward to in a couple of weeks. This week’s infographic gives you some idea of its dimensions.
On the IMD World Talent Ranking, Singapore ‘dropped’ to 7th but Malaysia went up 8 places to the 25th place. No, this did not make any headlines - it’s just an FYI. The ranking looks at investment into growing local talent, how appealing the country is to talents both local and overseas; and the degree of skill and competencies that exist in the talent pool. At no. 25 out of 69, we could do much better.
Lastly, in this week’s op-ed, I mull over how we value our own efforts as a reflection of how we value ourselves. It’s not just about having talent, is it? It’s also about the money. It’s always about the money!
